Now in life we all have those things that stop us from becoming our best self out of fear. For Joanne it was the fear of death, at the young age of 45 she found herself battling depression, diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.Now, two years later the only thing Joanne is battling is the boxing bag.
Although Joanne does not fight professionally boxing was an element of her life that changed her health and outlook on life. Growing up as a Filipino woman in Oakland and Fremont area of Northern California Joanne loves everything about her culture. One of the things that she mentioned in our phone interview is they eat rice with every meal and although she loved the people and the food that came with her culture she knew it was time for a change.
For those of you, that do not know Joanne she has her AA in travel from Chabot Community College in Hayward, CA. She was a full-time corporate travel agent and worked part-time at a local radio station doing promotions and was part of the street team. A friend of hers knew someone out in L.A. who was looking for a travel agent to do entertainment travel for Universal Music Group and thought of her because of her background in travel and the music industry. That is what brought her out to L.A. 16 yrs. ago.
For someone working 40 to 60 hours a week in the travel entertainment business, how can you have time to change your lifestyle? Two words: Johnathan Bustamaste Johnathan became Joanne’s personal trainer and the rest was history. He really liked her spirit and personality and knew she was a good person and wanted to help her become healthy and overcome her fears. In the phone interview, he tells how he works Joanne’s whole body in a 20-45 minute workout with boxing at The Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, California. He also tells us the power of faith over fear and how women can get more into the sport for fitness and keep their femininity.
