The Next Big Thing in Boxing: De'Angelo Cunningham

Success is defined in so many ways! The most common way we look at our lives is regarding financial success. De’Angelo has big dreams of big money. If we look at De’Angelo, we don’t just see a drive for monetary success, but we see a genuinely cool guy, a great dad, an essential part of his community, a motivator, a boxing club owner, and a professional boxer.

Boxing Pro, De’Angelo “Champ” Cunningham, born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. Has been boxing since he was twelve years old oddly enough the same age as boxing great Muhammad Ali. I have had many chances to talk to De’Angelo over the past year and what impressed me most about him, is that he is hyper-focused on his craft. That’s heavy dedication, passion, and enthusiasm for his art form has helped him make his dreams to become a pro a reality. De’Angelo formula for success is: stay hungry, keep your desire strong, train hard, put in one hundred percent to whatever you do, stay confidence and persistence in the game of boxing and the game of life. He takes his motto seriously and practices what he preaches. Inside and out of the ring. I can’t think of a better message to take with me as I travel the road of life. I felt so inspired hearing this from a man who has accomplished so much!

I told him he sounded just like another Cleveland native, Les Brown, motivational speaker when he told me that. Les Brown always preached that anything is possible if you work towards it. And although De’Angelo burns a lot of calories hitting the bag, and knocking his opponents out, he not hungry as in he wants a juicy burger. He wants you to know that he is highly motivated, has a strong desire to win and will be dedicated to success in the sport.

A little fun fact about De’Angelo is that he is a welterweight boxer and also a southpaw. For us who don’t rock the boxing lingo, that means he fights in the pro arena in the 140-147lb weight class and is a left-handed boxer. He also has two pro fights under his belt, no pun intended, and much more to come. We were joking around when we were filming our boxing video, and I told De’Angelo I was wondering if I could survive a punch from him if I let him take a free shot at me. (the answer is no, for all those wondering…I would be down for the count, needing serious medical attention) De’Angelo delivers a strong right jab and an even stronger left hook. Other boxers would be wise to be working on their fitness and strategy before they meet our champ in the ring because De’Angelo is relentless in always training and always learning about his sport and passion.

De’Angelo owes a lot of his success to not only his hard work and sharp mind, but to his coach Safo. Having a coach and mentor is what shapes many of our leaders today. De’Angelo takes what he has learned and is a leader in his gym, the House of Dogs Boxing Club. All ages are welcome at House of Dogs. De’Angelo and his team train men, women, boys and girls how to safely and effectively participate in the sport and beyond. This is how you build good habits. Start young, learn the correct way, always stay flexible, and teachable. Eventually, all the financial, mental, emotional, and relationship successes will follow. For De’Angelo, the results speak for themselves. While here in Hollywood, California for our How to Video, Wild Card Boxing Club invited De’Angelo to train with them for a week. There he trained and was coached by Freddie Roach, trainer to superstars like Manny Pacquiao and Mike Tyson. What an honor for him! Who knows where De’Angelo will end up next? I see De’Angelo under the spotlight at the MGM in Las Vegas for the main event becoming the next big thing in boxing in the next few years. There is no limit to where his career will skyrocket too. We wish him all the best! Knock ‘em out champ!
