Prince: The Man Behind the Symbol

Give Respect:

It is somewhat odd to me that when Prince passed a lot of media outlets have presented “allegations” (those accusations are not mentioned in this article) about the life of a man that did so much to make it his priority to give something back to those in need. This article is going to show some of the views of the people that were closest to him and gave their perspective on the quietly supportive philanthropist behind the symbol.

Make It Know:

If you knew Prince for his cutting edge fashion and as the artistic, musical legend, but were not familiar with his generosity towards charities and causes to make the world a better place today is the day that you learn about the actual man behind the symbol. The late pop icon supported multiple charities and gave generously throughout his lifetime, but he was never one to broadcast his good deeds.

Prince will be leaving a massive hole in music and the lives of people around the world because too many he was not just a musician; he was a life-saver. As his close friend Tamron Hall recalled on MSNBC after his passing saying, Prince "was much more than music and I think that people know that.” She also stated, “He didn't want people to know all of the ways he helped other people." "He did it as this silent angel including how he helped me, in my life, on many occasions."

Another one of his dearest friends Van Jones in a recent interview with CNN's Don Lemon speaks on that side of Prince that he did not want the world to see. "[Prince] did not want it to be known publicly, but I'm going to say it because the world needs to know that it wasn't just the music," the CNN political commentator said

the music," the CNN political commentator said.

"The music was one way he tried to help the world. But he was helping every day of his life." wanted the world to know that his legacy is more than the music. "There are people who have solar panels on their houses right now in Oakland, California," he said, "and they don't know Prince paid for them. According to Van, Prince was also responsible for putting together the coding program #YesWeCode which allows urban youth access to tech programs. The programs mission of training 100,00 low-opportunity young adults for high-paying careers in technology. As Jones told CNN, Prince was passionate about finding ways to diversify the technology field.

He also had a hand in environmental program Green for All, which allowed accessible green living for all people. Prince supported Chicago Rebuild the Dream, a mobilization of hundreds of thousands of everyday people—from seniors to students, moms, dads, brothers, and sisters—who come together to build strong, vibrant communities and to fix our economy from the ground up.

Not to mention all the charity concerts he performed to show his support to the causes he believed in. All in call Prince has supported the following charities listed on this site:
