Cover Story: Lance Reddick

Lance Reddick is one of my personal favorite actors in the game right now. Boasting a very impressive resume that features starring roles in three groundbreaking timeless television dramas from network tv to HBO as well as numerous appearances in film, on stage, even hit video game voice-overs and anime we have been fortunate to witness a lot of his amazing work over his illustrious career spanning more than the past two decades.

On scenes that are inserted throughout the game which at the time to my knowledge had never been done before on that scale. And let’s not forget his unforgettable performance in the 2017 game of the year Horizon Zero Dawn which took PlayStation four to the next level in terms of what people felt it was capable of from the graphics to gameplay to just immersive massive story. Not to mention made this gamer right here finally play such an open world style game from start to finish which is something I never do (massive open world games always seem to lose my attention because the main story often loses its urgency and I get bored and/or distracted and never finish) and I’ve been playing video games since Colecovision.

And his character Sylens was one of my absolute favorites. Adding such an intriguing and recurring mystery element to the game that begs you to play on to discover the secrets one can only find in the ending moments. Lance Reddick is an actor that continues to create characters that captivate us and if he is in a project it is always an automatic draw to that project. And that is the reason he is the feature of this article. I know for a fact he is going to be a face we will continue to see on screen for decades to come. A consummate professional and family man. He level of integrity is respected and celebrated and I’ve never heard of him spoken of in any other way other than with reverence and respect. In this industry it’s always refreshing to see an actor who is brilliant to watch in action as well as

observed as a pleasure to be around behind the scenes by all that work with them and know them personally. I only regret I wasn’t able to do a sit down with him in person as I’m writing from NYC these days. But make sure to keep up with all of Lance’s work in the feature and to tune in to Bosch which is currently running on Amazon Prime.

While living in Boston and realizing that the resources he was using to cultivate his music career were insufficient and he was working three “day jobs” to try and really pay the bills which even led to a back injury. With his daughter now around one, he thought about his current skill set and thought of a new way to utilize it. Wanting more for himself and his family he applied to one of the most prestigious drama programs in America Yale and actually got in. With the obvious skill and celebrated work ethic that has led to so many characters, we now know of so many years later his story is a huge inspiration to all his contemporaries and actors young and old especially those like myself who found acting later in their lives and didn’t necessarily have the resources of those born into the industry or who came up through the educational machine early.

Also, we’ve got several of his film pieces in the work coming up including my personal most anticipated John Wick three.
